Civil Society Organizations

Juba, July 27, 2018 – There have been sharp disagreements among members of the civil society coalition over who is the legitimate president of the coalition of civil society organizations in southern Sudan.

A member of the Civil Society Coalition, Atak Lalwal, former head of the civil society coalition Akwaj Agnak, raided the headquarters of the coalition in a royal neighborhood in the capital Juba, and declared himself the head of the civil society coalition.

He pointed out that Akwaj has been relieved of the post of head of the civil society alliance since April last year, adding that as members of the coalition will open a report against him.

Noting that the new president of the coalition is Ms. Alkir Malwal, and is now present in Khartoum as part of the delegation of civil society in the peace talks in southern Sudan in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
